Certified Islamic Banker - SQA


The Certified Islamic Banker (CiB), awarded by SQA (UK) is a globally recognized qualification. CiB qualification is aimed at students and professionals who plan career in Shari’ah compliant finance, trade, investment and insurance, as well as individuals who want to know more about Islamic finance for general interest or because they want to move into this industry. CiB qualification is jobs-focused and will require candidates to demonstrate a practical understanding of Islamic finance. CiB qualification provides the international benchmark in the area of Islamic finance and it is aimed at existing employees, new employees as well as individuals seeking a career in Islamic Finance.

CIB Units

CiB contents are divided into three units/ modules. Candidates must score at least 60% in the synoptic exam to qualify as a CiB.

Unit 1: Islamic Finance Principles
Unit 2: Governance Issues in Islamic Banks
Unit 3: Risk Management by Islamic Banks

Entry Requirements

CiB is an ‘open-entry’ qualification. CiB qualification is available to everyone who is capable of reaching the required standards. Centres ensure that applicants have appropriate information and advice about the qualification and that the qualification will meet their needs. Centres take appropriate steps to assess each applicant’s potential and make a professional judgment about their ability to successfully complete the programme of study and achieve the qualification. CiB assessment is broadly comparable to Level 3 (in English framework) and Level 6 (in Scottish Framework)

CIB Recognition

The Certified Islamic Banker (CiB) qualification is awarded by SQA (UK) to learners who have successfully completed the synoptically assessed exam. SQA is UK regulatory body offering academic and vocational qualifications and assessment to schools, colleges, employers and other places of learning in the Scotland and internationally. SQA is focused on developing certifications across multiple industry sectors. SQA works with BIMS as partner who employs a completely unique approach in the development and delivery of new qualification to ensure consistency and clearly understood methods in the UK.
